My daughter loves school and loves creating everything from beautiful and creative art pieces to creating science experiments. Last year for her birthday we bought her one of those build your own volcano kits and she loved it. It seemed to spark this need to figure out, experiment and discover things. So, the moment I saw Project Mc2 and the Ultimate Lab Kit at the Walmart Chosen By You event, I knew it would be a hit with my oldest daughter. Our friends at MGA Entertainment were kind enough to send us one so we could try it out, and let me tell you it was an even bigger hit than I expected!
When it arrived my daughter couldn’t wait to try it out. She was so excited to create her very own experiments and thought it was so cool to have her very own lab kit. The overized lab bag unzips to reveal the Ultimate Lab Kit with a real working microscope, glass slides, test tubes with stand, funnel beaker jar, 3 lab flasks, 15 PH strips, pipette dropper, petri dish, safety goggles, 2 sticker sheets and an experiment book for you to conduct over 15 different experiments.
One of the things I love is that all of the experiments can be conducted with common household items you already have. So, there is no need to buy special equipment or ingredients to have some fun. The first experiment she decided to try was the Crazy Milk Color experiment.I gathered all of the supplies and then stood back and watched (well, I took pictures so you could see how fun this kit is!) while my daughter completely took charge and did the experiment all by herself.
First, She started by pouring milk into the petri dish.
Next, she added the food coloring one drop at a time.
Next, she took one of the cotton swabs and touched it to the food coloring. “Oh my gosh, how COOL!” is what she said when she saw the colors disperse. She thought that was pretty cool, but the experiment instructions suggested you see what happens when you add a drop of liquid dish soap to the mixture. She was in awe of what happened next.
I gave her a small clip board with paper so she could record her findings, just like a real scientist. She thought this experiment was so fun and she probably would have gone through an entire gallon of milk doing it over and over again!
I love that this toy is inspiring girls everywhere to embrace their inner “geek” with authentic S.T.E.A.M (science, technology, engineering, art and math) projects and real live experiments. Girls can even catch an episode of Project Mc2, a new Netflix original series for tweens featuring four core characters McKeyla McAlister, Adrienne Attoms, Bryden Bandweth and Camryn Coyle, who have a love of all things science and tech and express their interests using everyday experiences to show that S.T.E.A.M. is all around us. And for those girls who still love to play with dolls, MGA is taking girl empowerment to the next level with dolls designed to represent real girls. Each doll has a unique cultural backstory and comes with their own experiment activities like Grow-Your-Own Rock Sugar Jewelry, and Make-Your-Own Soda Can Robot.
It earned my tweens seal of approval and I definitely think that the Ultimate Lab Kit, available at Walmart for $43.99, will be one of the hottest gifts for girls this holiday season! We’ve already purchased a few to giveaway as gifts to friends because Smart Is The New Cool™!
What do you think, would your daughter love a toy like this?
Dear Mariah,
Hopefully you may be able to help.
I bought the he Ultimate Lab Kit for my Daughter on ebay and the manual was in Chinese.
If you have time would you please be able to post the booklet online? The seller can’t help.
Thank you very much.
