This month DecoArt challenged us to create a project that was warm and cozy for our monthly challenge. When it comes to warm and cozy during the winter months I can’t think of anything better than sipping on a cup of hot cocoa wrapped in a warm blanket. So, I did what any normal person would do and I created a farmhouse style hot cocoa bar that we can use all winter long!
I am a big fan of a styled bar cart, as you may have noticed when I created this DIY Metallic Bar Cart, or when I shared this DIY Outdoor Bar Cart. I love the idea of my kids and our friends being able to help themselves and feel right at home. Having a dedicated space for drinks, appetizers or treats really helps make entertaining easy.
My kids are out for winter break and I can’t wait to spend some lazy afternoons with them sipping on hot cocoa. But, what’s even better is they can’t wait to invite their friends over and let them make their own hot cocoa at our farmhouse style hot cocoa bar. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to see my kids embracing entertaining and wanting to create memories with their friends, that’s what it’s all about!
I was inspired by Whipperberry’s original hot cocoa sign, which you can visit her site to download her hot cocoa cut file . I made this quick and easy farmhouse style hot cocoa sign using my favorite DecoArt Satin Enamels paint and my Cricut Maker. Here is what you will need to make your own sign:
- DecoArt Satin Enamels Black
- Cricut Maker
- White Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Painters Tape
- Paint Brush
- Wood Frame
Step 1:
The first thing you need to do is create a wood frame for your sign. You can create your own using this tutorial, or in a pinch you can purchase your own pre-made wood sign at your local craft store.
Step 2:
Once you have the frame for your sign ready tape the sides with painters tape and get it ready to paint.
Step 3:
Paint the inside of the frame with the DecoArt Satin Enamels black paint. I love this paint for projects like this because of it’s thick even coverage. Not only is it great for painting furniture you can also create beautiful decor with solid coverage.
Step 4:
Let the paint dry completely and then remove the painters tape. Cut out the hot cocoa logo with your Cricut Maker on white vinyl.
Step 5:
Use transfer tape to carefully adhere the vinyl saying to the frame.
Step 6:
Hang your frame and create a festive and fun farmhouse style hot cocoa bar.
You can use these hot cocoa bar all winter long to stay nice and cozy. I hung a few banners I had in my craft stash and then used an old vintage desk that I love using as a food and beverage station to create our hot cocoa bar.
Use a metal 3-tiered stand to hold your hot cocoa supplies. Fill jars with candy cane stir sticks, straws and don’t forget the extras like whipped cream and caramel sauce to make your hot cocoa extraordinary!
I am excited about using this fun and cozy winter themed bar cart all season long. I am even more excited about my quick and easy DIY farmhouse hot cocoa sign.

Where did you find/purchase your wood for this project?
Mariah says
Hi Britt, I found the wood sign at Hobby Lobby. They sell lots of unfinished wood frames that you can customize.
