I have a confession to make, I’m terrible at printing out and updating 0ur picture frames. I take lots and lots of pictures, but they usually end up in a folder on my desktop. They typically get forgotten about until the kids have a school project they need photos for. But, I’m trying really hard to get better at filling our frames with photos from our favorite adventures. And this month I decided to not only fill the empty frames, but I also decided to make a new fall picture frame with metallic texture to display one of my favorite photos!
This month DecoArt is focusing on a new product, DecoArt Texture and challenged me to create home decor perfect for the fall season. I recently stumbled on this photo one my kids snapped of my husband and me, and it was my inspiration. I knew my red hair and our carefree expressions would truly pop in this DIY picture frame with texture.
The DecoArt Texture Dimensional Metallic paint is perfect for adding a little bit of embellishment to furniture and home decor pieces. This smooth, heavy-bodied dimensional acrylic paint makes building texture easy and effortless. In less than 20 minutes I created a pretty new picture frame that is perfect for one of my favorite new photos.
Here are the supplies I used to make it happen.
- Wooden Picture Frame
- Americana Decor Texture 8oz – Copper
- Americana Acrylic – Sea Breeze
- Americana Acrylic – Aqua Sky
- Palette knife
- Stencil
- Painters Tape
I love infusing my signature color into my home decor, especially when it comes to accessories so I painted the frame with my favorite aqua colors. I love this bright color, but I wanted it to have more of a “fall” look and feel. I chose a small stencil and used painters tape to hold it in place.
Next, I took a palette knife and spread the texture paint onto the surface with long, continuous swipes.
I carefully removed the stencil and repeated the steps until the frame was finished.
Finally, I added my photo to the picture frame. I love how the color and texture pop against the fall pumpkins and highlight one of my favorite fall photos.
I’m excited about trying the Americana Decor Texture out on other projects. I think it would be fun to makeover a piece of furniture and give it extra dimension and pizzaz with lots of texture and color. What do you think? What would you create with Americana Decor Texture?
