Do you have an Elf on the Shelf? What kind of crazy shenanigans has your Elf gotten himself into? I have seen so many awesome and creative ways that people have placed their Elves, and I thought I would share some of my favorite ideas so that YOU can have some fresh new ideas for your own Elf.
We could all use a little bit of help in the creative department, especially if you have kids who remember little details from last year and you need 25-30 NEW ideas. There are 30+ Elf on the Shelf Ideas here that will help inspire you to make the holidays magical for your kids. Most of these are fairly simple to do and can be put together in just a few minutes, even when you’re frantic and forget to move your elf.

If you have a toy airplane that the Elf can fit in, make a runway with a strand of Christmas lights! It is a great way to bring the Elf back too!
Have a little bow fun! Get out all the Christmas bows and stick them everywhere. The bathroom is a great place because it’s a small room.
Stack up the toilet paper as high as you can for Elf so that the kids won’t touch him!
Have your Elf bring some new coloring books and crayons for the kids!
Trap your Elf in an empty cookie jar- You can encourage the kids to make cookies (after you eat all the ones in the jar first).
Give the kids some giggles with Elf in the crockpot. Cotton balls make great bubbles.
Even elves get thirsty too. And they love sugary drinks!
Eggs for breakfast, or dinner maybe?
Have a little door for the Elf just in case the kids ‘touch’ him. That way he can go home and get better quickly.
Build an Igloo with paper and cotton balls for your Elf!
An impromptu photo shoot is always fun, especially with cute girls.
Give the kids a little treat! Fairy bread is so simple- it’s just butter on bread with sprinkles!
Peppermint seeds grow candy canes. Plant them in flour and have the kids find candy canes in the morning!
A little help? This might torture the kids because they know they can’t touch him!
Elf loves hot cocoa too! Spend some quality time with the kids enjoying hot chocolate and marshmallows.
Have your elf bake some cookies, of course he will make a mini version too for himself! Here is the recipe for these delicious hot cocoa cookies.
Marshmallow golf, anyone? Elves like to have fun while the kids are sleeping.
Make some mini pancakes for breakfast and have Elf waiting to be served!
Drawing a Minion on a banana might encourage the kids to eat more fruits- especially if they can show this off at school.
Write words of encouragement on the bathroom mirror with a dry erase marker.
Random acts of kindness should be taught at an early age- and a great way is to have Elf helping along.
Set up the table with a craft for the kids to do. Toilet paper reindeer, snowmen.. the possibilities are endless.
This could be a great way to let the kids know that there’ll be s’mores later!
The Elf can make friends with the kids’ other toys and have sack races.
Create your own scavenger hunt and let the kids have some candy canes.
Buy some new pj’s or warm socks for the kids and let them wake up to Elf having a sleepover with his new friends.
Snowball.. err marshmallow fight! Powdered sugar makes for great snow.
Make some snowflakes and hang them up- and have the kids make some of their own.
What have you gotten yourself into!? Sprinkle snow angels are fun.
If you have any Army men or Legos, the kids would get a kick out of their Elf being taken hostage.
Place your Elf up high, on an empty toilet paper roll swing!
Another great way to keep the Elf away from the kids- ziplining from a doorway to the tree.
Our elf doesn’t normally cause mischief or get into silly shenanigans, but he always arrives with a special North Pole Breakfast for the kids. It’s become one of their most anticipated things of the season and you can check out these posts to see all of the fun he brings:
