Smoked Tailgate Beans with Dr Pepper

  • 3 cans navy beans, drained
  • 2 cans great northern beans, drained
  • Onion, diced
  • Bacon, diced in small cubes
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup mustard
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 1-2 Tablespoons of Spicy Chipotle Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce
  1. Caramelize the onions with 2-3 Tablespoons or Dr Pepper in a hot skillet
  2. Meanwhile open the cans of beans and drain
  3. Dump the beans into a large mixing bowl
  4. Add the ketchup, mustard, honey and brown sugar
  5. Add salt and pepper to taste
  6. Add the caramelized onions and bacon, reserve some of the bacon to add a layer on top of the beans
  7. Mix everything together and pour into the aluminum baking pan
  8. Add a layer of bacon to the top of the beans and brush on the Spicy Chipotle Dr Pepper BBQ Sauce
  9. Put in smoker and smoke for 3 hours or bake in 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes
