Spicy Chipotle BBQ Sauce {Father's Day #Awesomesauce}

Make homemade BBQ suce with a spicy kick in less than 15 minutes.

Serves: 10-12
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ⅓ cup chipotles in adobo sauce, minced
  • 1⅓ cup ketchup
  • ¼-1/2 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp cider vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp spicy brown mustard
  • 3-4 Tbsp brown sugar (depends on how sweet you like it)
  • Black pepper
  • Salt
  1. In a medium sauce pan heat the oil
  2. Saute onions until soft and translucent. Add garlic, stir, and cook for 1 minute more.
  3. Add the minced chipotles and sauce to the pan.
  4. Stir in the ketchup, vinegar, mustard, and brown sugar.
  5. Thin with water to desired consistency (I used about ½ cup) and heat just until bubbles begin to appear.
  6. Taste and season with salt & pepper to taste.
  7. For smooth sauce, let it cool 5-10 minutes and run it through the blender until smooth.
  8. Transfer to a Mason jar or airtight bowl and store in the fridge (will keep for 2 weeks).
