Hello everyone, Alison here from Alison Inspires! This is my first post for Giggles Galore and I’m excited to share with you a super easy gift or home décor piece you can enjoy all season long, a DIY Watermelon Felt Pillow
August 3rd is National Watermelon Day, and you couldn’t ask for a more perfect fruit for the summer! It’s refreshing, colorful and fun. But this fruit isn’t just for eating, you can incorporate the design into your home décor too. Watermelon, as an icon, has become huge in the design world. You see it in parties, clothing, wallpaper, so why not pillows?
Some of my favorite materials to craft with are felts and fabrics, so today I’m sharing my felt watermelon pillow.
Supplies You’ll Need:
- Hot glue gun and scissors
- Canvas Pillow – Round
- Assorted Felts (I provided the names below)
- Lt. Pink, Pink, Fuchsia, Raspberry, Neon Green, Apple Green and Black
- Green Twine
Directions:
Cut two strips of felt for each color, either straight, or at angles like the ones in the tutorial.
Layer them the way you’d like them spaced, from bottom to top on the pillow cover. With scissors, trim off any extra felt so that it’s flush with the canvas pillow.
Remove felt strips, keeping them somewhat the way you spaced them. Then, layer them again from bottom to top, but this time attaching the top of the felt to the canvas pillow with hot glue.
For the outer edge or watermelon rind, horizontally cut 1 ½ in strips of your green felt. Fold each strip in half, while securing with hot glue along the edge. Fringe the looped edge of the felt with scissors.
With hot glue, attach the outer fringe first, then the inner fringe.
Cut watermelon seeds out of black felt and glue to pillow cover.
For an added touch, glue colored twine along the seam where the green and the pink felts meet.
I hope this watermelon pillow brings a smile to your summer.
Super cute! Love working with felt. Visiting from Inspiration Monday party.
