Some of my fondest memories of Christmas come back to me while decorating the tree. Our tree is adorned with handmade ornaments from our kids, and ones from my childhood. We even have ornaments from both sides of our family going back to our great grandparents, and though all of these are priceless there’s just something special about making ornaments. That feeling of nostalgia comes over you as you go, year by year through the memories. This is a tradition you can share with your family and one we’ve passed onto our kids.
Hi, Alison here, and today I’d like to share with you a fun and easy DIY ornament idea, Cork Christmas Trees.
What You Will Need:
- 1 in. corks
- Paint
- Sewing pins
- Wire cutter
- Thread
Step 1:
Paint corks. I used a bright color palette but you can make these more traditional colors by adding gold to reds and greens. Or a more seasonal of a color palette with blues, white and silver.
Step 2:
Cut sewing pins down in size with wire cutter. If you aren’t able to cut the pins, petite pins could work as well.
Step 3:
Insert pins in cork. Arrange pins on cork to look like tree ornaments. Make a loop with thread, to attach to the top of the cork with a pin. I used bakers twine but embroidery thread or yarn could work also.
I kept the pins to four colors but adding a yellow pin on the top to resemble a star would be fun. You may want to choose colors that contrast with your tree.
These cork trees are cute as ornaments, but they can be used in other ways as well.
Add them to Christmas gifts, they’d be adorable attached to a wine bottle or string them together as a garland. There are so many possibilities.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and that your tree is filled with priceless memories.

I adore these so much. So easy to make and yet so cute. But I don’t have those embroidery threads of bakers. What can I use?
Mariah says
You can use any type of thread, ribbon or string that you have on hand.
