It’s January, time to get organized and once again I’ve teamed up with my blog friends to bring you lots of creative ideas and even a free Erin Condren Life Planner and Gift Box Briefcase! I consider myself a fairly organized person. I love to make list and check off tasks as they are completed. I hate clutter and try to keep the gazillion pieces of paper that my kids bring home from school organized and filed appropriately. For the most part I’d say I have a pretty good system…that is until recently.
We are temporarily living with my parents while we wait on our new house and all of my things are neatly packed away in a storage unit. Keeping everything organized like I did before has been a bit of a challenge. With the start of the new year I decided I needed a temporary system to keep schedules organized, family informed and my sanity in check. Since I’ll be moving soon and will inevitably need a new system for my new space I didn’t want to invest a ton of money in my DIY Command Center.
I took a quick trip to Hobby Lobby and I found this cork board frame on clearance for $6. It needed some work, but I knew I could make it work for what I had in mind.
First, I carefully took out the decorative cork board. It was attached with spray adhesive to a piece of cardboard backing so I gently slide a knife between the layers to loosen it. Once it was out I cut it into 8×8 squares. Next, I flipped over the backing for the frame (the piece the cork board was glued to) and spray painted it with chalkboard paint. I painted the frame black.
The push pins that came with the frame weren’t my favorite so I revamped them with washi tape and gold glitter. I also made a mini banner with the washi tape for the new chalkboard frame.
Now I have a DIY Command Center that will let me write down lists for what I need or important tasks for the week. As well as memo boards that I can pin things too, like my goal sheet for January.
Let’s start the new year off clean and organized with this round up of great ideas from my blog friends. Make sure you hop on over to check out their creative projects too.
