This month’s Michaels Maker Challenge encouraged us to go back to class and try something new! Did you know that Michaels offers a huge variety of free adult and kids classes? We decided to try out one of the kids craft classes and that project inspired my girls to take it to the next level and make their own Tie Dye T-shirts.
I decided to plan my weekly trip to Michaels during one of the Kids Craft Club classes. That way I could get my shopping done and my girls could spend sometime being creative and making a mess (one of their favorite things to do.) It was a win-win for everyone. The class being offered was a Tie Dye Canvas class and they learned how to create their own works of art using tissue paper and water. They loved it so much that we decided to take their new tie dye skills to the next level and try out a tie dye craft kit from Michaels.
Every time they see these craft kits at Michaels they beg me to buy it for them. I haven’t given in because honestly I was afraid of it being a big huge mess. The tie dye craft kit comes with everything you will need, except for the shirt, and I was so surprised and impressed with just how easy this project was. And it wasn’t even that messy. We followed the easy step-by-step instructions included in the craft kit and the results were awesome.
My girls loved creating their own Tie Dye T-shirts, it was fun to watch their excitement as the discovered the final results. They couldn’t wait to wear their new fashionable masterpiece to school the next day.
I love that an inexpensive afternoon at Michaels Kids Craft Club inspired my girls to embrace their inner craft diva and create something they can be proud of. After all, isn’t that what being a maker is all about?!
Not only do they offer fantastic kids crafts and classes, they also have lots of adult classes that cover everything from cake decorating to painting. Have you always wanted to learn to knit? Or maybe you want to make your own jewelry? Head to the Michaels classroom and give one of their free classes a try. You can try out a new craft skill and learn something you’ve always wanted to do for just the cost of the supplies, you can’t beat that!
If your Michaels Store doesn’t offer classes you can still explore your creativity with one of the many craft kits they sale. They offer everything from crochet kits to art kits and everything in between. There truly is something for every creative adventure you and your kids want to explore.
Love your tie dye project. Thanks for sharing at the Inspiration Spotlight party. Pinned & shared. See you again soon.
What a fun shirt! My daughter would love helping to make one of these! Feel free to share this at our weekly link party! http://www.thelifeofjenniferdawn.com/2016/05/fun-birthday-party-ideas-little-bird.html Hope to see you there!
Thanks Jennifer, I will head over now to check it out. Have a great weekend!
I did this with my son’s kindergarten class and it is surprisingly easy!
Wow, you are brave to do it with an entire group of kindergarten kids but I love hearing that it turned out great!
