Looking at Christmas lights is one of our favorite family traditions. It’s one of those things that makes the season feel extra magical. This year we are inviting friends and family to join in the fun and light up the night with a family-friendly Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt.

This year I wanted to spread some cheer and make this timeless tradition a little bit more fun. Because we all know that 2020 could use a big dose of extra cheer! So, I created a family-friendly scavenger hunt and invited friends to drop by to pick up their printable Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt and grab some hot cocoa to go.

A Christmas light scavenger hunt is a holiday game where participants seek to find all of the items on a list. You can walk or drive from house to house as you search for the different items on the printable Christmas scavenger hunt list.

Looking at lights is a classic holiday tradition. But, when you add in the element of searching for specific items it becomes even more memorable and fun.

How to Play Christmas Light Scavenger Hunt

This holiday game is super easy to play. Participants simply check off each box as they find things like Santa’s sleigh, the Nativity, and laser lights. Whether you play as teams or as a family it’s fun to spot and point out the different decorations.

There are several ways you could play this game. If you want to play as a group start by printing off a checklist for each team. Attach it to a clipboard to make it easier to write on.

Next, decide on a meeting place and a time limit.

Send everyone out to find everything on the checklist. You can encourage teams to take photos or videos of each item so they can prove they found them. Obey all traffic laws and be safe!

Finally, once the team has found everything on their list, or time expires, have them return to the meeting place. Hand out small prizes for the winning team.

Spread a little cheer around town by giving out awards for the best Christmas light displays. It only seems appropriate that people should be recognized and awarded for all their efforts to bring holiday cheer to the neighborhood.

Personally, I think the best way to look at Christmas lights is from the comfort of your own car. You can certainly cover a lot more of the neighborhood in the car than if you are walking.
