Delicious and fun, this Brunch Butter Board is a fantastic twist on a new trend. Switching out the savory flavors for sweetness allowed me to create a version that will have folks crowding around for taste after taste.
By now, you’ve probably seen the butter board trend taking the internet by storm. Just like the Charcuterie Board trend that became an entertaining staple, it seems like a great way to serve a variety of flavors and foods. Naturally, I couldn’t wait to try it out!
Mid-Morning Sweet Treats
Recently while making Danish butter cookies, it occurred to me that butter sweetened with a little powdered sugar and vanilla would be a perfect base with which to serve bread products that tend to be on the sweeter side like frozen French toast, Waffles, nut bread, cinnamon twists, scones, etc. Essentially breakfast and brunch foods! And what a fun way to let guests indulge their whims at your next brunch soiree.
Berry Delightful
This version of a butter board is so versatile that the possibilities are endless. Since I was thinking of a brunch occasion, including fruit seemed logical. Adding berries, jam and nuts not only enhanced the flavor but made for a stunning display.
Instructions
- Add 1/4 cup powdered and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to softened butter. For best results, use good quality, unsalted butter.
- Dump the whole mixture of butter and spread in the middle of the board.
- Add strawberry jam. I zapped the jam in the microwave for 15 seconds just to make the mixture a little more spreadable, but depending on the consistency of the jam it may not be necessary. Although I choose to cover the entire butter mixture, I later decided putting a stripe down the middle would have been a better choice.
- Sprinkle with nuts.
- Add fruit around the perimeter of the butter ring and dust with powdered sugar.
- Arrange the bread, waffles, etc. on the board and garnish with additional fruit.
Oh, the Sweet Possibilities
As I mentioned before, this Brunch Butter Board has endless possibilities. Consider the following toppings:
- Brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts
- Honey and crushed granola
- Cinnamon sugar
- Crush pineapple (well drained), brown sugar, and nuts
- Brown sugar, vanilla powder, mini chocolate chips
- Hazelnut chocolate spread (Nutella), crushed hazelnuts, sliced bananas
- Blueberry pie filling, lemon zest, a dusting of powdered sugar
- Lime zest mixed into the butter, graham cracker crumbs, candied lime peel,
- Molasses or gingerbread cookie crumbs, white chocolate drizzle, or chips
- Any kind of cake crumbs with seasonal berries
Types of bread products to try:
