Back to school is fast approaching for us, and I always try to get first day of school pictures of each of my boys before I send them off. Sometimes I’m really prepared and have a printable sign for them to hold…other times, I quickly snap a pic with my cell phone and hope for the best. But, then I have mom guilt and feel bad because there isn’t a whole lot of fanfare and hoopla about their first day of school. No matter which type of photo I get they will look great displayed on this DIY back to school picture holder.
Back to School Picture Holder
This year, I’m prepared though, even if I don’t have printable signs for them to hold! I was wandering through the Target Dollar Spot, as one does, and I saw these cute little chalkboard blocks. A dozen for just $3, so into my cart they went. Next, I hopped onto Amazon and picked up a package of picture clips, and in two days, I was ready to make some cute first day of school picture holders.
Chalkboard blocks (ABC blocks would work too!)

To make the clip semi-centered, I taped the blocks from edge to edge one way, and then rotated the block and taped a different edge. This left me with just a small triangle of block showing on the top. The top of the triangle should be just about the center of the block.
Next, I drilled a hole about 1/4” into the center of the block.
Then, I added a little bit of E6000 to the end of the alligator clip, and stuck it into the hole.
I let it dry over night. Once it was dry I wrote down my kiddo’s name and grade level on the front of the block, and clipped a picture into the alligator clip.
These are SO easy to make and are super cost efficient. I can’t wait to find more ways to use the extra photo clips! These are some of my favorite Back to School ideas from Giggles Galore, and my own page, Everyday Party Magazine!
