Tin for Ten – A 10th Anniversary Gift

Tin+for+TenToday, I am celebrating my 10th anniversary with the love of my life.  I am so lucky to have married my best friend, who is a wonderful father and provider for our family.  I adore my husband.  I love the way he makes me laugh, his sense of adventure, his calm and patient nature and the fact that he still looks at me with stars in his eyes…yes I’m one lucky girl.

We had planned to be celebrating our 10th anniversary lying on a secluded beach without a child, computer or phone in site, but life threw us a few curve balls and our plans for a beach getaway will have to wait. We don’t typically do gifts, but this is a big one so I decided to do something associated with the traditional 10th anniversary gift. The traditional 10th wedding anniversary gift is tin or aluminum.  Hmmm, what do you do for that?!?  According to Wikipedia “the pliability of tin and aluminum is a symbol of how a successful marriage needs to be flexible and durable and how it can be bent without being broken.”

I decided to make something that would be a symbol of how we’ve reached this milestone and reminder of our love for one another.  I created Tin for Ten and included 10 of my favorite memories from our marriage and 10 reasons I love my husband in a tin can.

First I emptied a tin can with a pop top using my pampered chef can opener.

After cleaning the can I wrapped it with scrapbook paper and embellishments.

I wrote 10 memories on a piece of paper and rolled them up and secured them with a tag.  On each tag I wrote one of the many reasons why I love my husband.

A small, but thoughtful gift to celebrate this milestone in our marriage.

Here are a few other ideas that I thought would be excellent to celebrate your anniversary.

It would be a nice idea, if each rolled paper-hanging from the baloon- had a way for you to enjoy each other on that … part of the house :).

My husband and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary next month and I really hope he has something planned for the actual day. I wasn't having any luck finding unique anniversary gifts, so I booked a weekend trip away to the mountains instead! ( miles well treat myself too!). I really like incorporating pennies into this idea. Did you use any pennies, or did you use pennies that had the years during your marriage?

What a wonderful idea! Could you share one of the things you wrote for inspiration? I’m not much of a writer.

Thanks Christine! I wrote 10 things about my husband and our marriage that I appreciate and adore. For example, I wrote “I love what an amazing Dad you are!” I included some specifics about what makes him an amazing Dad too. 🙂

Stephanie, they were part of a scrapbook paper set that I purchased at Hobby Lobby. You could always create your own with pre-cut tags and stickers.

Hi, I love this idea and want to do the same for our 10th anniversary next week. Silly question – but which end of the can did you open, and how did you get the lid back? It looks unopened in the photos. Thank you!

Stella, I opened the bottom of the can with a Pampered Chef can opener (they cut the can so there are no rough edges) I used super glue to attach it back to the bottom. The can I used had a pull top tab so my hubby was able to pop open the can to find his anniversary treasure!

What a fantastic idea! My husband and I were discussing this the other day, since our 10th anniversary is this week. What to get each other for our 10th,…with aluminum?!? This is perfect, thank you for the idea(s)!!!
